Week 2 Theme: Unusual Animals
Day 10: Thursday, June 19, 2020
Welcome to Camp Legend today! I am excited that you came by for some fun camp activities. Each day of Camp Legend will consist of SIX parts -(1) Warm Up, (2) Read Aloud, (3) STEAM Activity, (4) Roll Call, (5) Trail Hike, and (6) Look and Learn. Work through these activities in order (they build up the previous activity) and have fun exploring new things!
1. Warm Up Activity
Before we jump in to our activities for the day, let's have some fun with a little warm up activity. Below is a picture that is actually a puzzle. Use what is provided on the puzzle to problem solve a 3 digit number solution to open the lock. Click on the button below to submit your answer.

2. Read Aloud: The Sloth Who Slowed Us Down
Listen to our read aloud for today!
3. STEAM Activity: The Slowest Moving Maze
We know that sloths move really slow - in everything that they do! Today our STEAM activity will be to create the slowest moving maze possible. You might be used to STEAM challenges that ask you to move something as quickly as possible, and today we are flipping that around and work towards doing something as slowly as possible! We will use the Engineering Design Process to help us plan and think about our maze design. You should be able to use things you have around your house to make these - be creative and think outside the box!

Parent/Guardian Note: If you are unsure how the video and STEAM activity for today can be scaled to the appropriate level for your child, please click here for suggestions, ways to encourage collaboration, communication, critical thinking, creative innovation, and confidence, and STEAM connections.
If you or your child needs a reminder of how to navigate through the Engineering Design Process (as I will be backing off on the detailed descriptions of what each phase entails), click here to watch a refresher video or go back to any of the STEAM Activity videos from Week 1 (or here for a Safe YouTube link).

4. Important: RolL Call!
When attending camp, it is important to know who showed up and participated for the day - just like at school when your teacher takes attendance. Part of our roll call at Camp Legend is to not only know you participated today, but also to see what you created as part of the STEAM activity.
Note: If you are unable to attach your picture of your creation today on the Daily Roll Call form, please feel free to email it to me directly at [email protected] and I will include to be displayed on the Look and Learn below. |
As part of the daily Roll Call, we want to check in and see how you are doing. Sometimes things just don't go our way or are going really well - and this can affect how we think and work, and that is ok! You will see the images below on the Roll Call form - simply pick the one that best describes how you were feeling today!
5. Trail Hike (Optional Extension Activities):
Below is a Google Slides presentation that has a variety of activities that you can explore (or click here if you are unable to view the presentation below). Try one, try two, or try them all!
6. Look and Learn!
When you submit your attendance in the daily Roll Call, you are asked to share a picture of what you created today for the STEAM activity. When you submit a picture, it will show up below (it may take a few seconds and you might have to refresh your page). I know I LOVE seeing what you are making, and I am sure you are curious what others have created! So, make sure you complete your attendance (Roll Call) for the day and submit a picture of what you created!
