Week 3 Theme: KIDS' FOOD BASKET TAKE OVER!
Day 12: Tuesday, June 23, 2020
Welcome to Camp Legend today! This week Kids' Food Basket is doing a Take Over and sharing some really fun and exciting things. The great thing about this Take Over is that others get to share their expertise with you and you get a break from our normal routine. So, make sure you give a big THANK YOU to Kids' Food Basket for sharing this week!
It is like a week-long (virtual) field trip! One thing will not change though - you will still need to complete a Daily Roll Call each day. Remember, this is what we use to check in with you and see how thing are going.

1. TOPIC EXPLORATION: Volunteering
Today, Kids' Food Basket is sharing helpful ways that ANYONE can do to volunteer - no matter where you live! If you are unable to view the video below, please click here (or here for a Safe YouTube link).
2. Read Aloud: City green
Listen to our read aloud for today! If you are unable to view the video below, please click here (or here for a Safe YouTube link).
3. STEAM Activity: Decorate Sack Supper Bags to Donate to Kids' Food Basket
Kids' Food Basket serves sack suppers to schools across West Michigan so that children do not have to worry about not having a meal at home in the evening. One of the many great things about these sack suppers is that each brown lunch bag is decorated with a unique design. These are created by people from all over - not just in Michigan! Did you know that even Lady Gaga has designed a sack supper bag?
Now is your turn to decorate a sack supper bag! Be creative with a pencil, markers, or crayons and create a design that would brighten the day of someone! Use a 6 or 8 pound brown lunch bag and get creating! Below is a video that shows how you can use fruits and veggies to paint - which would make a great design for sack supper bag! Create one bag, two, or ten - the sky is the limit!

Notes:
- Please keep in mind that many Sack Suppers will be going to public schools and therefore cannot contain religious or political messages. Please refrain from using paint, glitter, feathers, or stickers.
- If you are in the Godfrey-Lee Public School district, information will be sent by email for how Mrs. Wood will collect your decorated sack supper bags.
- If you are outside the Godfrey-Lee Public school district, you can mail your completed bags to Kids' Food Basket or drop them off at their office. Mention that these were made as part of Camp Legend!

4. Important: RolL Call!
When attending camp, it is important to know who showed up and participated for the day - just like at school when your teacher takes attendance. Part of our roll call at Camp Legend is to not only know you participated today, but also to see what you created as part of the STEAM activity.
Note: If you are unable to attach your picture of your creation today on the Daily Roll Call form, please feel free to email it to me directly at [email protected] and I will include to be displayed on the Look and Learn below. |
As part of the daily Roll Call, we want to check in and see how you are doing. Sometimes things just don't go our way or are going really well - and this can affect how we think and work, and that is ok! You will see the images below on the Roll Call form - simply pick the one that best describes how you were feeling today!
5. Bonus Video
Kids' Food Basket has a Grow-at-Home program in which they are sharing different aspects of growing and nutrition. Below is a video for how you can do your own seed dissection. If you have some dry beans, tweezers, or even a sharp knife (with parent permission and/or supervision), you can do this dissection at home!
If you are unable to view the video below, please click here (or here for a Safe YouTube link).

6. Look and Learn!
When you submit your attendance in the daily Roll Call, you are asked to share a picture of what you created today for the STEAM activity. When you submit a picture, it will show up below (it may take a few seconds and you might have to refresh your page). I know I LOVE seeing what you are making, and I am sure you are curious what others have created! So, make sure you complete your attendance (Roll Call) for the day and submit a picture of what you created!
