Week 1 Theme: Welcome to Summer!
Day 2: Tuesday, June 9, 2020
Welcome to Camp Legend today! I am excited that you came by for some fun camp activities. Each day of Camp Legend will consist of SIX parts -(1) Warm Up, (2) Read Aloud, (3) STEAM Activity, (4) Roll Call, (5) Trail Hike, and (6) Look and Learn. Work through these activities in order (they build up the previous activity) and have fun exploring new things!

2. Read Aloud: Scribble Stones
Listen to our read aloud for today!
3. STEAM Activity: Make Your Own Scribble Stone
Today our STEAM activity will be to make your scribble stones! We will use the Engineering Design Process to help us plan out our designs, needed materials, and what we might do with our finished scribble stone. You should be able to use things you have around your house to make these - be creative and think outside the box!
Note: The video for today is longer than they normally will be - I wanted to make sure that students understood the Engineering Design Process. From this point forward, it will not be addressed in as much detail. I felt it was important for me to model the process and my thinking as I came up with my design. This may be summer camp, but some classroom-style learning is still relevant!

Parent/Guardian Note: If you are unsure how the video and STEAM activity for today can be scaled to the appropriate level for your child, please click here for suggestions, ways to encourage collaboration, communication, critical thinking, creative innovation, and confidence, and STEAM connections.
4. Important: RolL Call!
When attending camp, it is important to know who showed up and participated for the day - just like at school when your teacher takes attendance. Part of our roll call at Camp Legend is to not only know you participated today, but also to see what you created as part of the STEAM activity.
Note: If you are unable to attach your picture of your creation today on the Daily Roll Call form, please feel free to email it to me directly at [email protected] and I will include to be displayed on the Look and Learn below. |
As part of the daily Roll Call, we want to check in and see how you are doing. Sometimes things just don't go our way or are going really well - and this can affect how we think and work, and that is ok! You will see the images below on the Roll Call form - simply pick the one that best describes how you were feeling today!
5. Trail Hike (Optional Extension Activities):
Below is a Google Slides presentation that has a variety of activities that you can explore (or click here if you are unable to view the presentation below). Try one, try two, or try them all!
6. Look and Learn!
When you submit your attendance in the daily Roll Call, you are asked to share a picture of what you created today for the STEAM activity. When you submit a picture, it will show up below (it may take a few seconds and you might have to refresh your page). I know I LOVE seeing what you are making, and I am sure you are curious what others have created! So, make sure you complete your attendance (Roll Call) for the day and submit a picture of what you created!
